Just a few days after the diagnosis -- before my first Lupron injection (a hormone that kills testosterone) I was lying in bed one evening when my cell phone rang. It was from my PCP who was driving back from the airport while returning from a vacation trip to India.

What he said, changed my view of my situation and gave me what I really needed: Hope.
A plan unfolds
The First thing I learned is that you can't be afraid of cancer.
Even though my PCP (now retired) had great respect for my Urologist, he was angry that he told me I had limited time to live. My PCP said, "You never, ever tell a patient that! And the reason is simple Dennis, because if you believe that you'll be dead in two years, you will, in fact, die by then. The mind is that powerful!" My PCP went on to say that if I must not fear cancer because if I did, it would consume me. An honesty, there were many days when I had to remind myself of this.
Much More to Come
There were some other very important things my PCP shared with me that night but that's enough for now. I'll share those bits of wisdom in my next blog.
